First Announcement - BeXRB 2011

Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that a meeting on the topic of Be X-ray Binary Systems is to be held in Valencia (Spain) in July next year (starting on 11th and ending on 14th July, 2011).

Our understanding of these system is still far from complete, even though the amount of data in different wavelengths coming from these systems has increased enormously in the last few years. In fact, we are still dealing with several competing theories to explain the observations.

For this reason, we want to gather experts in the field, to discuss our actual knowledge of these systems, and to try to seek new insights in modelling their behaviour. These new insights could be very helpful in driving new directions for future research.

The key topics of the meeting will be:
  • Phenomenology of BeXRB transient outbursts in the X-ray domain (normal vs giant, pre-flares, complex shaped outbursts, pulse profiles, ...)
  • Observations in other wavebands and their implications
  • BeXRBs in external galaxies compared to the Milky Way population
  • The high-energy gamma-ray connection (LS I +61 303, PSR B1259-63, HESS J0632+057)
  • Transient outbursts as laboratories of accretion physics
  • Be stars, Be disks & models in the context of explaining the BeXRB phenomenon

Because of logistic considerations, attendance to the meeting is limited to 50 people (each person needs approval by the SOC).

The meeting website may be found on http://ipl.uv.es/bexrb2011. On the website you will find information about registration and practical issues (some stuff about Valencia, how to reach the place, etc).

Registration process will be open until 31st January 2011, please register at:

http://ipl.uv.es/bexrb2011/index.php/registration.html

as soon as possible.

It is important that you send us your proposed contribution during the registration process so that the SOC can use this information to finalise the list of attendees. Later on you can login into the system if you need to make some modifications. There is also a contact form (http://ipl.uv.es/bexrb2011/index.php/contact.html) in case you need to contact the LOC or SOC.

These are the members of the SOC, with Malcolm J. Coe as Chair:

  • Peter Kretschmar, ESA/ESAC, Villafranca, Madrid. Spain
  • Colleen Wilson-Hodge, NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville,AL, USA
  • M. Virginia McSwain, Department of Physics, Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA, USA
  • Ingo Kreykenbohm, Erlangen Centre for Astroparticle Physics (ECAP), Erlangen, Germany
  • Pablo Reig, FORTH/University of Crete, Hiraklio, Crete, Greece
  • Atsuo Okazaki, Faculty of Engineering, Hokkai-Gakuen University, Sapporo, Japan
  • Pere Blay, IPL, Universidad de Valencia, Valencia, Spain

The LOC,  with Pere Blay as Chair, is composed by:

  • Juan Fabregat, Observatori Astronòmic, Universidad de Valencia, Valencia, Spain
  • José Miguel Torrejón, Instituto de Física Aplicada a las Ciencias y las Tecnologías, Universidad de Alicante, Alicante, Spain
  • Silvia Martínez-Núñez, Instituto de Física Aplicada a las Ciencias y las Tecnologías, Universidad de Alicante, Alicante, Spain
  • Elisa Nespoli, Observatori Astronòmic, Universidad de Valencia, Valencia, Spain
  • Beatriz Sánchez, IPL, Universidad de Valencia, Valencia, Spain

We are looking forward to meeting you in Valencia!
