Title:Supergiant fast X-ray transients: a BeXRB conection?
Abstract:Supergiant fast X-ray transients (SFXT) are a new class of high mass X-ray binary that have been unveiled over the lifetime of the INTEGRAL mission. They are characterised by rapid X-ray flares from deep quiescence states at luminosities of ~10^32 erg s^-1, exhibiting dynamic ranges of up to 10^5 on timescales of minutes to hours. Since these systems were first characterised our understanding has developed at a rapid pace. Here we present two recent results from INTEGRAL and RXTE data and place them in the context of our knowledge of the class as a whole. As a result we consider the interpretation that SFXTs bridge the gap between the classic wind-fed SgXRB and BeXRB members of the HMXB family.
