Title:BeXRBs in external galaxies compared to the Milky Way population
Abstract:We know more than 80 Be/X-ray binaries in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), about two dozen in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and over one hundred in the Milky Way. Given that the mass of the SMC is 50 to 100 times smaller than that of the Milky Way Be/X-ray binaries are extremely abundant in this irregular dwarf galaxy. The large sample allows to investigate their statistical properties and to find interesting cases. In this talk I'll concentrate on the X-ray properties of Be/X-ray Binaries in nearby galaxies and compare the populations in the different galaxies to that in the Milky Way.
